Deploy Razuna in a virtualized environment or in the cloud

As the year 2009 comes to an end, we think it is save to say that a lot of organizations have or will be moving to a virtual environment for their IT needs. With the proven business model and technology of the likes of VMWare, XEN and other for Virtualization and fabulous Cloud Environments from Amazon and Nirvanix you simply own it to your company (and your financial department) to at least consider these options.

We here at Razuna Ltd. are big fans of virtual environments and the cloud services offered by Amazon and Nirvanix. So, it is no wonder that we have also included the option to deploy Razuna – our Open Source Digital Asset Management Solution - in the cloud and also store the assets in the cloud as well.

Deploy Razuna to VMware, XEN, Parallels, KVM, VirtualIron, Amazon EC2

For over a year now, we are offering the Razuna Virtual Server and it has become big success for us. Since we are not only offering you a pre-made virtual image of Razuna with its own operating system, but you have the full options to configure your own operating system, bundle your own applications and set the amount of used RAM and size of Hard Disk yourself. Moreover, the build process lets you deploy directly to your favorite Virtualization platform like VMWare, XEN, KVM, etc.

But if you really want to go all the way to the cloud, then the possibility to deploy directly to Amazon’s EC2 offering is one click away. We have deployments ready for EC2 Small, EC2 Large, EC2 Extra Large, EC2 High CPU Medium and EC2 High CPU Extra Large environments.

Storing your assets in the Cloud (Cloud Storage, Content Delivery Network)

Cloud Storage combined with a CDN (Content Delivery Network) gives your organization the possibility to stream those assets in the fastest possible way to your users. Be it for your company internal usage or for your customers, a CDN provides the best option for that.

We understand that a lot of organizations do need Razuna for streaming videos and images to their customers. Thus it is no wonder that we have included the Cloud Storage option within Razuna by default. Furthermore, the integration of Razuna with a Cloud Storage provider like Nirvanix (option for Amazon S3 is coming real soon) is a simple click away.

All you need to do to enable Nirvanix within Razuna, is to set your Nirvanix Key, Name and Password within the Administration panel and immediately you will store and retrieve all your assets within Razuna with your cloud storage provider.

We received a lot of requests for our Razuna Hosted Platform regarding our pricing, especially from organizations that use a lot of traffic and storage. Furthermore, the request for an affordable price plan that is explicitly tailored for smaller teams and organizations. Today, we’re announcing for you; our new price plans!

Basic Plan: $5/month for 3GB storage/traffic
Business Plan: $1.80/GB either storage or traffic

Basic Plan

The Basic Plan includes 3GB storage/traffic for only $5/month! You can enjoy all the benefits, like your own URL and all everything else that come along with Razuna. There is no limitations in users, groups, how many assets you want to store and more. Simply put, for only $5/month you get your own Digital Asset Management in the cloud! The perfect plan for small organizations and the startup in you! Get started right here!

Business Plan

Many organizations have taken up our Paid Hosted Service before, for all existing and new customers we are announcing today a price decrease and a more suited price for each GB: $1.80 flat!

What do we mean by $1.80 flat? As we were previously billing storage AND traffic, we will now only charge you the storage OR traffic, whichever is bigger! That means, if you use 30GB storage and have a 50GB traffic, we are charging you the 50GB only. The 30GB storage will be free of charge!

Existing customers will be “upgraded” to the new price plan automatically. If you want to get started with our $1.80/GB flat offering you can do so right now!

Of course, you can still sign up for the existing Free Plan which gives you 1GB storage/traffic per month.

Razuna Hosted Platform publicly available

razuna_logo_200As some of you might have already seen, we separated our Razuna domains into http://razuna.ORG, which will take you to the Open Source Version of our Digital Asset Management and now http://razuna.COM, which will bring up our newly launched Hosted Platform for your Digital Asset needs.

Yes, that is right, you can now enjoy all the benefit of Razuna without ever needing to run your own server. The Razuna Hosted Platform is available for free for up to 1GB storage/1GB traffic and afterwards for a very low price per 1GB storage/1GB traffic.

Given the fact that Razuna has become one of the most used and talked about open source Digital Asset Management solutions in the last couple of months, we are sure you will enjoy the benefit of the Razuna Hosted Platform as well. The Razuna Hosted Platform is based on the latest code base from the upcoming Razuna 1.2 version and features a lot of new enhancements. Here is a short list of available functions;

Sharing of folders and collections

Folders and so called “collections” (a bunch of assets spread in different folders combined in a convenient view) can be shared with the “world”. In other words, you can give everyone access to a designated folder/collection without them having to have access to your system. Moreover folder/collections can be secured with permissions or not.

Commenting of assets

Collaboration on assets is one step closer. We now have a commenting tool available within Razuna. That is, you can comment on any assets as many times as you want. But best of it, if you share your folder/collection (see above), commenting is available as well. Simply share a folder and have your clients comment on the assets within. No more email going back and forth or long discussion on the phone!

Razuna Desktop

As outlined in the last couple of blog posts here, we have been hard at work with bringing you a convenient Desktop tool to upload your assets locally. We are happy to say, that this tool is now available (well, in a day or two). With it you can run Razuna Desktop in the back and simply drag-and-drop your assets to Razuna Desktop and it will automatically upload your assets to your incoming folder. Razuna Desktop works both with the Razuna Hosted Platform and with a self hosted version. Now, where else do you get such a service?
