Razuna 1.4.4 available – enhancement and bug fix release

We are happy to publicly announce the immediate availability of Razuna 1.4.4. The new version brings enhancements and bug fixes. If you are running a older release we encourage you to upgrade to Razuna 1.4.4 as soon as possible.

The enhancements
For Razuna 1.4.4 we made some changes how the search works. From this release on, we automatically combine separate words with an “AND” operator. Providing you with more accurate search results. Additionally, we added a visual feedback to the search.

On the visual part, we also changed the way how folders are being shown to SystemAdmins & Administrators. Now, those users will see all folders by default (previously you had to explicitly request the view). Furthermore, we included the latest edition of the video player, which adds compatibility to the latest browser generations.

Last but not least, Developers have a reason to celebrate. With Razuna 1.4.4 we are introducing new options to the API. These are;

  • Modify Metadata (Link to the DeveloperGuide)
  • Uploading an asset returns the assetid and the asset type

The fixes
With the help of our community we were able to fix a couple of bugs that showed up after the 1.4.4 release. We fixed some bugs which affected Windows installations (some users could not add images to the system), also users with a MSSQL server got some unexpected errors due to the new ID system which was introduced in 1.4.2. Windows users will also be happy to see that we fixed bugs with writing the metadata, creating thumbnails and the playback of videos.

At this point, we would like to thank all our users for helping us and making Razuna the best open source digital asset management / media asset management solution out there.

As always, the complete release notes for Razuna 1.4.4 are available.

Razuna Hosted Platform Updates: Adding assets from the web and some more

We are very excited to let you know that we have made some major changes to the Razuna Hosted Platform in the last couple of weeks and also added some new features. Here are some of the most notable changes:

Adding content from the web

We have talked about this feature a couple of times to our customers and can finally make it available for everyone to enjoy. In other words, you are now able to add your favorite image, video, document of audio file from any source on the web (as long as it is publicly available) to Razuna. Especially for video assets you can even embed the video player from, as a example, YouTube, Vimeo or Google Video within Razuna.

This new feature will enable your team to collaborate on content, that is available on the web, within your very own Intranet and set permissions, comments and more on the asset itself. In short, we just made it possible to collaborate on content outside of Razuna, as it would be within Razuna. So, get your favorite social media multimedia asset right with Razuna.

To add any content from the web you simply click on the “Add file(s)” link and then choose the “Link to content” tab. Within select if you want to link to a public URL or in the case of a video want to embed the video player from the external video side. Ohh and before we forget, this will also enable you to embed video content from a streaming server!

Best of all, this new feature is available for you right now within your Razuna Hosted Account. For those who have a Razuna self hosted version you need to wait a bit more for Version 1.4 to be able to use this feature. But on top of this, you will not only be able to link to content on the web, but will also have the feature to catalog local folders and assets!

Speed Improvement and Stability

With the recent changes we also implemented a major database remodeling that increased the database access manifold and added some “under the hood” changes that has made the Razuna experience a much faster one.

With the help from our users, yes that means you, we are able to bring one of the best experiences to the table for Digital Asset Management! In case, you haven’t enjoyed the hassle free way of Digital Asset Management, we encourage you to create your account for free or download the latest Open Source release for your pleasure.

Razuna 1.3 and Razuna Desktop 1.1 available

We are extremely excited to announce the all new Razuna 1.3 and Razuna Desktop 1.1 releases. We are extremely excited about those two releases since we have put in a lot of requests and enhancements into both products. We think, it will boost your productivity a lot!

Razuna Desktop
A lot of people have downloaded the application as it provides the easiest way to upload your assets to the Razuna Server. So, it was no question for us, to extend the functionality of Razuna Desktop.

The new release brings among other stuff the possibility to upload to any folder. You are no longer bound to upload only to the “UploadBin”. Simply choose the folder on the left side and upload to it. Moreover, Collections are a important part of Razuna, now those Collections are also available within Razuna Desktop. Another very useful option is that your assets can now be accessed right from Razuna Desktop.

Did we mention that you have your whole folder structure available within Razuna Desktop and you can browse your assets with it?

Razuna 1.3
Razuna keeps on going forward strong and the recent download numbers show us that a lot of people have been waiting for a strong open source tool to manage their multimedia assets. Naturally we think Razuna is the best way to do that. To keep up with the strong demand we are happy to have included many of the requested features. These are too many to list, but here is a short list of the main ones:

* MS SQL support. Tested with MS SQL 2005 and 2008.
* Languages can now be en-/disabled.
* Option to define your own extensions.
* You are now able to download any asset directly.
* You can upload your custom logo within the DAM administration.
* Fully compatible with Internet Explorer 8.
* Option to add assets to a collection from the list and search page.
* Users are now able to create subfolders (previously only administrators could do that).
* Many improvements to the Developer API among those a API for Collections.

There are many more fixes and enhancements under the hood and we think it makes up a pretty impressive new Razuna release.

Razuna 1.3 and Razuna Desktop 1.1 are available for download as of immediately at http://razuna.org. Also the favorite Razuna Virtual Image has been updated for your convenience.
