The Updates are here

While catching up with some past RSS-Feeds I noticed the following mentionable updates;

WordPress 2.7
If you are into blogging and are serious about it you know about WordPress. With 2.7 they redesigned the Admin interface dramatically (for the good) and added some nice new features. Worth every penny.

MySQL 5.1
Yes, it is here. MySQL 5.1 is final (GA) and has been downloaded like crazy since going GA. Customers and testers have been running pre-releases of 5.1 for over a year in production and Sun claims this to be the most stable release every (…and yes, Razuna with MySQL support is about to be released very soon).

Apple MacBook’s Updates
The new (late 2008) MacBook’s are by no doubt beautiful machines, but have been plagued with some Battery, Screen and Mouse issues in the past. Apple slowly roles out the updates ot fix them. Today they released two new firmware updates that fixes some major issues for MacBook owners.

(And if you believe the rumors then MacOS X 10.5.6 is around the corner…)

LaCie Ethernet Disk and iTunes

A couple of months ago I got myself a LaCie Ethernet Disk for home usage and sharing my photos, videos and of course music files. The goal was to make the Ethernet Disk available to all laptops and stream music, with Airport Express, to my home sound system.

Well, all works quite well and I have to say that Airport Express is such a useful gadget. Be it at home or on the road, it is worth every penny.

But the problem I had lately was that music files I put on the Ethernet Disk did not show up anymore within iTunes. I thought it was because I still had an older version of the firmware and thus updates to 1.1.2.1. Still, my music files did not show up in iTunes.

Further searching I found this blog post which described the same problem. I downloaded the fix (iTunes Server patch) and applied it to my Ethernet Disk. After updating the Disk you will have to rebuild the media database, but I am happy to report that the fix solved the problem.
