Why Razuna is more then a open source digital asset management system

Managing your digital assets should not just be about storing and archiving your media library. It should be the base of all your digital media environment. That means it should be beyond storing versions of your media asset, it should be easy to integrate with any existing publishing system like a Content Management System (CMS) and any marketing application like a newsletter tool.

Did you know that Razuna comes with a full featured Content Management System (CMS) that tightly integrates with your Digital Asset Management (DAM)? The CMS part of the system even has a separate login so that only people who care about the editing side of your website never have to bother with the media content your company is providing.

Feeding your website with your media assets is a simple task within Razuna. All you have to do is to collect your desired assets into what we call a “Collection” and save that collection. Your CMS Editor can then edit a page and include your collection with a simple click.

We realize that you might have another CMS already within your infrastructure and thus you can of course access your collection trough the open API. Be it if you directly access the database or get a collection through a web service.

Razuna is a open source digital asset management system that is freely available at http://www.razuna.com/. The first version of Razuna was made available in July 2008 and has since then been downloaded over 3000 times within the last 2 months. Currently version 1.1.1 brings over 100 improvements and includes features that our customers requested. You can download Razuna today and deploy it for yourself within a couple of minutes. There are also introductions videos available for you to see what the buzz is all about.

Razuna 1.1, open source digital asset management, now available

We are very happy to announce that Version 1.1 of Razuna – our open source Digital Asset Management System with integrated Web Content Management – is now available (and this on the day that Elvis died and Madonna turns 50)!

Version 1.1 features a embedded database that lets you deploy Razuna within minutes and without any additional database setup. The embedded database performs very well and holds up in production environments as well. Of course, support for the Oracle database is still given.

We also increased the speed on some asset operations and make now extensive use of the Lucene search engine. Additionally we included a Upgrade Manager, which makes upgrading to a new version a breeze. For the CMS part we updated FCKEditor to release 2.6.3 which fixes some issues that users experienced on Firefox 3.

This release of Razuna is a major leap for us, since we have now transitioned to a complete Open Source distribution, where all components used are now open sourced. For the technically inclined Razuna leverages the following open source components; OpenBD (Lucene included), Tomcat and H2 (I am going to blog some more about this database). As always, this release comes as a WAR/EAR distribution or bundled with Tomcat as a Standalone Server.

Razuna is a professional digital asset management/media asset management with an integrated web content management that delivers and makes management of your digital assets a simple task. Razuna is licensed under a dual-license (AGPL and commercial) and can be downloaded at http://www.razuna.com. The Wiki is available at http://wiki.sixsigns.com and the public Issues Tracker at http://issues.sixsigns.com (both products proudly sponsored by Atlassian (Confluence and Jira) ).

(We are aware that our forum is down right now. We should be up and running on Monday again. Thank you for all your patience.)

Updates on Razuna – open source Digital Asset Management

Just a short notice that a version 1.1 of Razuna – open source Digital Asset Management (DAM) with integrated Content Management (CMS) – is coming in about two weeks.

The major change for version 1.1 will be that it will feature an embedded database, meaning you won’t need to install any additional database. The embedded database performs very well and holds up in production environments as well. This just brings down the installation of Razuna to 2 minutes (downloading Razuna, unzip it and run the server)! Of course, support for the existing Oracle database is still available.

Also we ironed out a couple of bugs that sneaked in after the 1.0 release.
