Firefox 3 Beta 5 available

Firefox 3 Beta 5 has been released today. The most important improvements are:

  • Improvements to the user interface based on user feedback, including changes to the look and feel on Windows Vista, Windows XP, Mac OS X and Linux.
  • Changes and fixes for new features such as the location bar autocomplete, bookmark backup and restore, full page zoom, and others, based on feedback from our community.
  • Fixes and improvements to platform features to improve security, web compatabilty and stability.
  • Continued performance improvements: changes to our JavaScript engine as well as profile guided optimization continues to improve performance over previous releases as measured by the popular SunSpider test from Apple, and in the speed of web applications like Google Mail and Zoho Office.

You can read the whole release notes and download here.

WebDeveloper Toolbar 1.1.5 available

In a recent post I said that one of my “must have” extensions, the WebDeveloper Toolbar, is not available for FireFox 3 and thus makes testing the FireFox 3 browser a less pleasant expirience.

Well, this all changed today when WebDeveloper 1.1.5 turned up. Thank you, I can now finally start testing FireFox 3.

FireFox 3 Beta 4 looks nice on MacOS X

We just took a look at the latest Firefox 3 Beta 4 release and I have to say that I like the new MacOS X look a lot. It looks very clean and invites one to browse with ease.

Admitted, they took the normal look and feel from the MacOS X theme, but now Firefox “feels” more like a MacOS X application then simply a Windows port. We have not played with it a lot, mainly because two of our “must-have” plug-ins, Web Developer and Firebug, are not compatible. Thus we can’t really say much, but pages are loading real fast (still Safari 3.1 Beta is even faster) and it looks like Firefox has grown up.

We are much looking forward to the day we can use Firefox 3 in full.

ColorZilla 2 Beta available

ColorZilla, one of my favorite Plug-Ins for FireFox right next to the Web-Developer toolbar, is now available in Beta for Version 2.

The Beta brings support for FireFox 3, Firebug, Ubuntu support and runs on Linux, Windows and MacOS X and much more. If you have not installed it yes, go ahead and give it a try.

Speaking of FireFox 3 and the Web Developer toolbar. Unfortunately, I don’t see any sign that the Web Developer toolbar has a beta or anything available for FireFox 3 yet. If anybody knows anything, I would be happy to know, since this plug in is important for us and stops me from trying FireFox 3.
