VMWare Fusion 1.1.3 available

VMware Fusion 1.1.3 is now generally available.

The new update addresses six issues, including:

  • Boot Camp activation now works with Windows Vista SP1 Boot Camp partitions.
  • VMware Fusion 1.1.3 again allows users to enable unbuffered I/O, otherwise known as “Optimize for Mac OS Application Performance,” on Mac OS X 10.5.3 now that Apple has addressed a bug that previously caused a hang under heavy disk load when unbuffered I/O was in use.
  • Fixes problem where sound would sometimes not work for VMs created with other VMware products including VMware Converter and VMware Workstation.
  • Fixes a problem in VMware Fusion 1.1.2 that caused Shared Folder mounting failures in Linux guest operating systems.
  • Fixes a problem where VMware Fusion did not distinguish between Traditional and Simplified Chinese so that if a system language preference was set to either Chinese version, Fusion would always present the Simplified Chinese interface.  In VMware Fusion 1.1.3, this has been resolved and Simplified Chinese is only displayed on systems set to Simplified Chinese by default.
  • Updates the Simplified Chinese on-line help.

VMware Fusion 1.1.3 update is a FREE update for all existing VMware Fusion customers and the 1.1.3 update includes English, French, German, Japanese, and Simplified Chinese language support.

Apple EFI Fireware update fixed my screen issue

In a recent blog post of mine I said that since 10.5.2 update and the graphic update my external Apple Cinema Display is not working anymore.

Yesterday evening I applied the just released “Apple EFI Firmware update” and now this morning my MacBook Pro is working flawlessly with my external screen again!

I don’t know what Apple has done or if the firmware is the cause, but it is now working 100% even after rebooting the MacBook. As always Apple does not state much what the Firmware has changed, but I am sure happy they finally fixed it.

Apple Security Update 2008 – 002

Looks like a Update Day from Apple. Apple just released the “Security Update 2008 – 002″ for 10.5.2 and I believe 10.4.11. The update addresses some issues with;

  • Apache: Updated to 2.2.8/1.3.41 to address several vulnerabilities
  • FireWall
  • OpenSSH: A remote attacker may be able to execute arbitrary code with elevated privileges
  • PHP: PHP is updated to version 5.2.5/4.4.8 to address multiple vulnerabilities
  • Preview: Saving to encrypted PDF in Preview produces files that may be read without the password
  • and much more…

Looks to be quite an important update for your own safety. You can read up on the full release notes here. The update can be obtained with the build in Software Update function.
