Razuna at the OpenExpo 09 in Bern

On April 1st and 2nd 2009, the OpenExpo Exhibition will be held in Bern, Switzerland.

The event will feature a conference, a exposition and a showcase of the current open source systems. We are proud to have been invited to participate in the open source showcase and thus will be available for you to show Razuna – our Open Source Digital Asset Management System – and answer your questions.

How to deploy Razuna to your virtual environment

It is no secret, that our top download option for our Open Source Digital Asset Managament Razuna is the Razuna Virtual Server Image.

Not only, does it the Virtual Image come with a full Razuna pre-installed, but also contains a full Linux installation and can be deployed to any virtual environment within a short time. In other words, it only takes you a couple of minutes to deploy a full blown Razuna server to VMWare ESX(i), a XEN server or even Amazon EC2 (just to name a few). That without you having to install, update or configure much. There you have it, a Digital Asset Management that is really ready for the cloud!

What’s in for the next version of Razuna?

First off, we would like to thank the thousands of people that have downloaded our Open Source Digital Asset Management System “Razuna” and especially all those who are actively engaged in helping us making Razuna better and those who volunteered helping us (coding, evangelizing and translating Razuna to new languages).

So, you might wonder what’s coming in the next version or Razuna? Actually, there are a lot of new features, like Workflow and Versioning of Assets, but we would like to tell you what is already done and working now.

New Folder View

razuna-folderCurrently, when you click on a folder you are presented with  overview of what is inside the folder. Then, when you want to see the assets you would click on the icon or the tab. In the coming version we changed this, since some of you thought there are too many clicks involved to get to the assets. Now, it is that you will see all assets within the folder and also be able to see assets from sub-folders.

PSD, EPS, AI, WMV and FLV assets

Recent versions could not properly handle PSD, EPS and AI files. The new version, treats them correctly, creates a thumbnail and you can also convert them to different formats, just as with all images. The same applies to FLV and WMV assets. Those were previously not created correctly and failed on playback. Now, all assets are recognized and can be properly shown.

Search Improvements

We improved the searching of meta-data, descriptions and keywords substantially. Especially, words with international character (German, Norwegian, French, Chinese, etc.) are now recognized and found in a search.

Upload enhancements

We made a lot of changes to the uploading and how it interacts. In such, that there is a interactive Upload component in place which will give you immediate feedback of the upload status. Moreover, we have the uploading on a separate page, as previously in a single window, and increased the upload speed.

Support for the Cooliris plugin

The Cooliris plugin enables your browser and digital library to be browsed in a cinematic way. By displaying content on a single, ever-expansive wall, Cooliris helps you find what you’re looking for faster than the traditional way of clicking the “next” button webpage by webpage. Thus, in the next release of Razuna you can also browse your library with a stunning MultiMedia Wall.

All in all, the new version will have over hundred new, changed or improved features. Among other improvements is a much faster loading time, mails being sent as the user and not the server anymore, Thumbnails are shows proportionaly, ZIP archives are extracted correctly and much more.
