Use of a framework, a methodology or both or none at all

Now there is really a “war” going on among developers about using a framework or not. The recent proof of this is this entry in this blog. It is a side by side interview with Simon Horwith and Hal Helms. Kind of reminds me on the OS war between MacOS and Windows :-)

My own opinion lends toward of the gentleman’s interview on the right side in the above blog. We have used Frameworks for some small projects and I have to admit that I am no fan of it. For us, it makes more sense to use a common coding practice (methodology) then force upon anybody to use a framework. All of our applications are build with a common methodology and developers who have worked with them understood it within days.

But go on and decide for yourself. Use what works for you and not what some hype dictates.

Presentation of Flex with ColdFusion online

I think about a month or so ago Ben Forta was here in Switzerland and did a two hour session on Flex with ColdFusion. It was an interessting evening, but I think some of us were amazed but at the same time bewildered how ColdFusion integrates with Flex.

Adobe just finished the Adobe Developer Week and Ben Forta recorded the Breeze session and put it now online. Go and watch it now. This will be the future of the web!

One of the comments that impressed me most (next to the amamzing CF wizard) was when Ben said: “…the danger is that most CF developers will look at a Flex app like at a CF app and try to build it the same…”. So, be passioned before doing hard core coding, watch and learn and then build the next killer app :-)

Switzerland goes crazy on beating Togo (World Cup 2006)

I am not too much into soccer but today is a happy day for all Swiss people. The swiss team has beaten Togo 2:0 and has now a big advantage in its own group. Actually after 12 years they won the first time a game in the World Cup. Now that is impressive :-)

Watching TV tonight is only about the “Red invasion” and the party that is going on troughout the night. There have been 50000 swiss fans travelling to Dortmund (Germany) to watch the game. In one of the biggest streets in Zurich town people are going crazy and are partying away.

I am happy to see that people are happy and are in party mode. It is fun to watch and “get along”…

Free Oracle Database now available for more Linux Distros

Oracle released their free Oracle XE database for Ubuntu, Mandriva and Demian Linux Distros. I am always amazed how Oracle pushes the Linux platform. Actually this is quite cool. You can get your free copy of the Oracle Database right here.
